A slightly scaled-down version of summer’s convention, I’m still excited nevertheless as I’ll be adding a new name to my The Empire Strikes Back poster – Julian Glover!
You may know Glover from Game Of Thrones or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (he chose ‘poorly’), but I know him as General Veers of the Galactic Empire! “Yes Lord Vader, you may start your landing.” Julian is a very pleasant gentleman, his eyes light up when he sees my poster. He ponders where to sign and I suggest a spot next to an AT-AT walker. He says “Ah yes of course!” and signs away. He then tells me “That was my home” as he taps on the AT-AT, and as an added bonus he even draws an arrow pointing his name to the AT-AT! What a guy! He also signs my Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade sleeve for good measure.
I also meet J.W. Rinzler, author of the fantastic ‘Making Of’ series of Star Wars books. We briefly discuss the Star Wars universe in general before he signs some books for me.
Nien Nunb and I then attend a panel talk ‘The Ladies Of Sci-Fi’, featuring Margot Kidder (Lois Lane from Superman), Natasha Henstridge (Sil from Species) and Joanna Cassidy (Zhora from Blade Runner). The talk is interesting and light-hearted, and the actresses each recount various anecdotes of their film experiences.
We have our obligitory wander around the stalls to gawp at the geeky merchandise and displays. Then we call it a day, and I look ahead to Collectormania 20 in a month’s time and the chance to meet yet another big name in the Star Wars universe...
